Bringin’ a New Song (Sampler Album)

Description

Bringin’ a New Song is a multi-artist compilation album released on Myrrh Records in 1978, a division of Word. The sampler album was a part of a nationwide promotional campaign entitled Bringin’ a New Song launched by Word to bring special exposure to 12 contemporary artists released on various labels distributed by Word, according to an article entitled “Word Launching 12 Young Artists” featured in the August 5, 1978 issue of Billboard Magazine. The compilation features one track each lifted from those 12 artists’ (for the most part) debut albums.

The Bringin’ A New Song sampler album could not be purchased the ordinary way but came as a bonus when you purchased an album from one of the featured artists included on the sampler, though it came enclosed for free with Limited Edition versions of those albums. “Special Limited Edition – 2 Records Inside for the Price of 1“, according to the sticker on the front of the LP, which also stated that “This package includes a special bonus record featuring 12 contemporary artists and groups…” (The sampler LP came housed in an inner sleeve which also featured information on each of the 12 artists included on the sampler.)

In addition to the multi-artist sampler album the Bringin’ a New Song Word campaign released 12 Promotional Radio Special albums, one for each artist included on the sampler LP (featuring interviews with the artist, interspersed with music from the artist’s album), as well as an Introductory Program LP (a colored vinyl in-store airplay LP introducing all artists and highlighting selected songs). (Bringin’ A New Song Show #1 LP features an Introductory Program, the Bringin’ A New Song Show #2 LP features Amy Grant, LP #3 features Fireworks, LP #4 features Steve Camp, LP #5 features Farrell & Farrell, LP #6 features Terry Clark, LP #7 features Gospel Seed, LP #8 features Wendell Burton, LP #9 features Alwyn Wall Band, LP #10 features Nedra Ross, LP #11 features DeGarmo & Key Band, LP #12 features Andrew Culverwell, and LP #13 features Pantano Salsbury.)
