Farrell & Farrell

Description

The self-titled debut album by the American pop duo Farrell & Farrell (husband and wife Bob and Jayne Farrell) was released on NewPax Records in March 1978, distributed by Word in the US. The album was recorded and mixed by Brent King at Sound Stage Studios in Nashville, Tennessee; with John W. Thompson and Shane Keister producing. All songs written by Bob Farrell except track A4 written by Jayne Farrell.

Vocals by Bob and Jayne Farrell. Featuring a session band consisting of producer Shane Keister on keyboards, Johnny Christopher on rhythm guitar, Reggie Young on electric guitar, Lee Garner on slide guitar, Jack Williams on bass, as well as Kenny Malone and Jerry Carrigan on drums.

Jayne and Bob were first called One Man Band, then recorded as Millennium which released a self-titled, sole album in 1973. The same year Jayne released a solo album on CAM simply entitled Jayne. In 1974, Bob joined Dove, one of the first groups to be signed by Billy Ray Hearn to his fledgling label, Myrrh, while Jayne continued to minister as a solo performer in churches. But in 1976 they were a team again, performing for the first time under the name Farrell & Farrell.

Bob and Jayne Farrell are the embodiment of the whole late’-70s‘ Christian radio pop-rock and ballads format. I can’t handle the slow-n-easy string-drenched songs, but I found a few likable moments on their debut in «Fig Tree», the funky «Highwire» and the slide guitar-enriched «Tryin’ To Get A Hold». That opening pop nugget «Earthmaker» ain’t too bad either. A couple of Bob’s songs are recycled from Hope Of Glory («Lifesaver») and Dove («Adoption») [Ken Scott, The Archivist, 4th Edition]
