Amy Grant

Description

The self-titled debut album by the 17-year-old American singer and songwriter Amy Grant was released on Myrrh Records in 1977, a division of Word. The album was recorded and mixed by Brown Bannister at The Gold Mine Studio in Brentwood, Tennessee; with Chris Christian producing, assisted by Bannister. Three songs from the album made Top Ten Christian radio airplay: “Old Man’s Rubble,” “Beautiful Music,” and “What A Difference You’ve Made.” The album actually sold 50,000 copies in three weeks.

Ccm queen’s humble and more or less swallow able beginnings if you like that sort of thing. Mostly inoffensive white-bread pop and easy acoustic ballads at this stage. Hear where it all began: «Mountain Top», «Old Man’s Rubble», «What A Difference You’ve Made», «On & On» and irritating novelty song #1 «Grape, Grape Joy». Produced by Chris Christian, assistant producer Brown Bannister. Oh yeah, look for the semi-obscure original cover – there’s acne clearly visible (horrors!) [Ken Scott, The Archivist, 4th Edition]
