Description
Welcome is the solo debut album by the American singer and songwriter Terry Clark of The Children of Faith fame, released on Good News Records in 1978, distributed by Word. Also released in the UK by Myrrh Records, a division of Word. The album was recorded and mixed by Joe Bellamy at Mama Jo’s Recording Studio in North Hollywood, California; with Chuck Girard of Love Song fame producing. (A friendship with Chuck Girard led to Terry playing keys as part of Chuck’s live band for a time. Girard was subsequently tapped as producer for Terry Clark’s debut as a solo artist.) Strings arranged by Jimmie Haskell except for two tracks arranged by Stephen Houston of Fruupp fame. (Houston was a former bandmate of Terry Clark and his brother Duane from the time they spent with Liberation Suite in Europe during the mid-70s.) All song written by Terry Clark.
Featuring session musicians such as Ernie Watts, Dean Parks, Jon Linn, Burleigh Drummond, Emory Gordy, Jr., as well as Mike and Jeff Porcaro. Backing vocals provided by the original members of the female vocal trio The Blackberries (Sherlie Matthews, Venetta Fields, and Clydie King), among others.
“Merry-Go-Round” was originally recorded by Children of Faith on their self-titled custom album released in 1972, while “Living Loving Eyes” was another Children of Faith song only featured on the multi-artist compilation Hill Country Faith Festival 74 released in 1974.
The album track “Time Enough” was included on the Myrrh Records sampler LP Bringin’ A New Song released in 1978.
Terry Clark – Welcome – Good News GNR 8107 – Producer: Chuck Girard.
People are gonna buy this album ‘cause as a total package it’s better than most and better means it doesn’t have one or maybe two good songs and eight “fillers.” Terry Clark and producer Chuck Girard have put together 11 original compositions by Clark and they’ve got a winner. If they missed “the boat” anywhere it was in not naming the album, «Ugadano Thawanu Maija». And it’s not only a great title it’s a great song. However, «Let’s Have A Good Time» is so infectious it may receive more airplay but one of the two (or both) are going to be number one. Make it three, «Red Cloud» is dynamite, too. During the early pioneer days of Jesus Music, Terry was part of a group called The Children of Faith which recorded a self-titled album in 1972. The band played in south/central Texas. San Marcos, south of Austin, was a regular stop. That is where the band Liberation Suite was from. After The Children of Faith disbanded, Terry and his brother Duane became part of Liberation Suite in 1975 and were based in London for almost a year. Lib Suite was chosen to do the tour to introduce Chuck Girard of Love Song fame as a solo artist to the UK and Europe. A close relationship between Terry and Chuck began on that tour which led to Chuck producing Terry Clark’s first album, Welcome. Terry became a member of Chuck’s band and Chuck introduced him in each concert. After being a part of several group ministries, Terry became a solo artist. From 1980 to 2000, Terry’s lead vocal was heard on over 65 songs on Maranatha! Music projects, including the Promise Keepers productions.
