Back to the Rock #2

Description

Back to the Rock #2 is the title of a multi-artist compilation album released by Maranatha! Music through their label A&S Records (Asaph & Sons) in October 1983. (A similar compilation album titled Back to the Rock had been released two years earlier.) Mixed at Whitefield Studios in Santa Ana, California. Cover design and illustration by Kernie Erickson. In the words of the label’s promo ad: Where can you find New Music, British Rock, Ska, and Rockabilly, all on one record? Back to the Rock #2

Featuring “Break Out of the Night” by Eden, kind of a forerunner of Idle Cure featuring Steve Shannon and David Chumchal on vocals, Rob Watson on keyboards, Chuck King on rhythm guitar, Kevin Wilson on solo guitar, and a rhythm section consisting of Roger Charles on bass and Larry Alwag on drums. The track was recorded and produced by Dan Willard. (Rob Watson actually plays keyboards on nearly every track on the album.)

A1. Bill Batstone – “Silver and Gold” – 3:50
Bill is by no means a stranger to contemporary Christian music. With past commitments in the Richie Furay Band, regular session work, and a song writing history spanning the past ten years. Bill is introduced here showcasing his interest in the setting of the Psalms to music.

The Altar Boys are a four member group led by rhythm guitarist Mike Annis. Along with Steve Pannier, Ron Bacca, and Jeff Crandall. Mike is involved in vital ministry thru personal appearances throughout Southern California. They use a rhythmic new wave/ska style of music in challenging their listening audience to “straight ahead” living for Christ.

B3. Sheryl Olguin – “Easy Rider” – 3:50
Sheryl has been involved in the contemporary music ministry for several years within the Calvary Chapel fellowship. Preferring the “behind the scenes” work of leading others in worship through her music, Sheryl debuts here as a recording artist. She shares her concerns for the lost, and struggling Christian, in “Easy Rider”.

James is the lead vocalist, bass guitarist, and writer for the James Ledlie Band. After extensive club work spanning the past decade, James realized that God had other plans for his life, and committed his musical talents to the Lord Jesus. In addition to ministering with his group, James also shares in concert as a solo, and was a participant on the first Back to the Rock album released by Maranatha! Music. (AS0001)

Danny, formerly of the Maranatha! group Bethlehem, has been involved in contemporary Christian music since 1971. His songs appear on several Maranatha! albums, including his first solo album, ‘Sons of Thunder‘ (MRC020). Danny, with his wife Cher and their three children, now make their home in Golden, Colorado.
