Description
Back to the Rock! is a multi-artist compilation released on A&S Records in November 1981, a sub-label of Maranatha! Music, distributed by Word. (A&S Records – Asaph & Sons – was a rather short-lived label formed to provide an outlet for music deemed to have too much of an “edge” for the praise and worship-focused parent label Maranatha! Music.) Involves various producers like Jonathan David Brown (producing Tamarack), Gerry Limpic of of Limpic & Rayburn and The Random Sample fame (producing Rob Mehl), Randy Bugg and Sonny Lallerstedt of Dove and The Pat Terry Group fame (producing Mike and Von Rogers), John Mehler of Love Song fame (producing himself), and Dan Willard (producing Malcolm & the Mirrors, Leslie Phillips, Tim Koller, Ben Mendoza, and James Ledlie Band). Featuring cover design and illustration by Kernie Erickson. Two years later A&S Records released yet another multi-artist sampler album, simply entitled Back to the Rock #2.
Featuring “Bring Me Through”, the very first effort by Leslie Phillips recorded while she was still in her teens. (Later re-recorded for her 1983 full-length debut album Beyond Saturday Night.) The compilation also includes “Child of the Father” recorded by Mike & Von Rogers, a song written by Michael “Mike” Rogers and later covered by Mylon LeFevre on his 1982 album Brand New Start, and as well covered by Mo James on her sole album More Love released the same year.
