The Wedding Album

Description

The Wedding Album is a multi-artist project released on Maranatha! Music in 1983. The album was recorded by Chris Taylor with Tommy Coomes of Love Song fame producing. Arranged by Stan Endicott and Tom Howard. Includes the popular “Our Love” (written by Tom Coomes, Bill North, and Sam Scott) as recorded by Roby Duke and Kelly Willard.

You want meaningful wedding music by your favorite contemporary Christian artist, but don’t want to unsettle sweet Aunt Agnes by broadcasting Leon Patillo live through the church. Your’re overwhelmed by the range of options and frankly can’t afford the time to search out the best message, the right mood. Why doesn’t someone just pick the best (something old and something new) and produce an elegant version, ready to play?

Tommy Coomes (Love Song) got the vision, Maranatha! Music got the message, and ‘The Wedding Album’ is the result. Form follows function here – the key word it appropriate. Song lyrics are Christ-centered and utterly mushy. Instrumental arrangements are wonderful; not clever or catchy, but fresh, varied, sensitive. Appropriate. Only the vocals disappoint, occasionally slipping from “tasteful” to bland and studied.

«This Is The Day», «Flesh of My Flesh», and «Wedding Song» are worthy classics. But don’t miss «The Father’s Call», a tremendous love prayer by Tom Howard. And Debbie McNeil sings her own «After the Sunset», a haunting affirmation of steadfast love and one of the album’s genuine highlights. Michele Pillar and Roby Duke sing an exceptional Jayne Farrell tune, «Like Sweet Music».

‘The Wedding Album’ can help the bride – and groom – who are serious about lifting up Christ in their wedding and about catching God’s vision for their life together. [Diana Lynne Pavlac, CCM, August 1983]
