Description
Hill Country Faith Festival ’74 is a multi-artist compilation album released on A.C.R. KNO BEL in 1974 (an outreach of Hill Country Faith Ministries, San Marcos, Texas). The album was recorded by Dick Snider and was produced by A.C.R. Inc. Mixed by Don Davis and Doug Kemper.
Admirable custom studio compilation from Texas ministry. Mostly folk-rock groups, the standout being Kemper Crabb’s Redemption found here performing a heavy pre-Arkangel version of «To A Sleeping Infidel» with spacey flute and heavy electric guitar. Also appearing are the groups Trinity («Eli») and Glory Bound («Shine In Me»), both songs being different versions than heard on their ultra-scarce custom LPs. Children Of Faith do «Living, Loving Eyes», a track not on their homemade album, but that would later appear on member Terry Clark’s Welcome LP. New Life performs «Cosmic Tourist», a folky electric Way like track with the lyric “I’m not one with the cosmos cuz the cosmos is one with the devil”. Woody Woodward’s guitar is mixed so low his two folk/blues songs almost sound a cappella («The Sixth Seal», «Taste Of A Bitter Wind»). Likewise Carol Cisneros does an enthusiastic cover of «Swing Low, Sweet Chariot» with only a hand clap for accompaniment. Cliff Locklear does a vigorous acoustic piece («The Rich, Young Man»), while Terry & Wanda White do a quiet strum through «If God Is Dead». The sound is low-tech but in a pleasant way.
