Ralph Carmichael & the Family of Light is a multi-artist compilation released on Light Records in 1976.

The Family of Light is a great musical scrapbook of many of the artists that recorded for Ralph’s Light Records in the early 1970’s. The project was released with two different covers. The first version (a black and white cover) came in 1975 and was prepared for a big concert held at that year’s Christian Booksellers Convention. The second (an orange-themed cover) was released the following year for the general public. Both albums contained the same songs.

Ralph wrote in the 1975 liner notes: “We want you to remember us as real people, not just names on a record jacket or sounds on an album. Our albums may wear out, but the message of our music will last forever.”And in 1976: “What a group! They come from different theological backgrounds; they run the full gamut of musical styles; they even hail from different parts of the United States. But we are a family held together with one common purpose. . . sharing the light of the gospel through our music.
