Description

The self-titled solo debut album by the American gospel singer and songwriter Danniebelle Hall (October 6, 1938 – December 28, 2000) of Andraé Crouch & The Disciples and The Dannie Belles fame, was released on Light Records in 1974. (Later re-issued by Light, this time as well manufactured and distributed by Elektra/Asylum Records, a division of Warner Communications Inc.) The album was recorded by Billy Taylor at Mama Jo’s Recording Studio in North Hollywood, California; and at CAM Sound Studios in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; with Andraé Crouch and Bill Maxwell producing. Mixed by Taylor at Mama Jo’s Recording Studio. Strings and horns arranged by Clark Gassman and Fletch Wiley, respectively. Vocals arranged by Andraé Crouch and Danniebelle Hall. All songs written by Danniebelle except track A5 – the hymn classic “He Giveth More Grace” written by Annie Johnson Flint and Hubert Mitchell, track B2 written by Hadley Hockensmith, track B3 written by Andraé Crouch, and track B5 – the hymn classic “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” written by Thomas Chisholm and William Runyan.

Featuring Danniebelle Hall on vocals and piano, backed by a session band featuring Joe Sample on piano; Harlan Rogers on organ; David T. Walker, Dean Parks, and Hadley Hockensmith on guitars (with the latter also providing bass); Wilton Felder on bass; Bill Maxwell on drums; with Sandra Crouch on tambourine. Horns provided by Erine Watts (saxophone), Fletch Wiley (trumpet and flute), and George Bahanon (trombone). Background vocals provided by Andraé Crouch, Danniebelle Hall, Paula Jones, Phyllis St. James, and Jimmye Jackson. (Wiley, Rogers, Hockensmith, and Maxwell actually also were members of the R&B combo Sonlight in the ’70s, known as the back-up band of Andrae Crouch, both live and in the studio.)
