Description
Sticky Music Sneak Preview is a multi-artist sampler cassette featuring tracks by various British artists, independently released in the UK on Sticky Music in 1986.
Trivia: Rattling the Cage is a 6 piece band featuring – amongst others, Lorraine McIntosh & Ewen Vernal, later of Deacon Blue. No official releases. Andy Thornton from the band went on to be in Big Sur and then The Late Late Service. The two songs by The Technos are included on their album Songs for a Nervous World, albeit in different less electronic versions and with different titles (“European Soldier” is called “Friends & Frontiers” and “On the Boards” is called “Dare to Dance”). The final Technos tour used (some of?) Lies Damned Lies as their band (one of the songs on LDL’s The Human Dress was about Technos’ Steve Fairnie).
This is basically a sampler of various bands on the Sticky Music label in 1986. In general, this is new wave / 80s rock / alternative rock music. Talking Drums kicks off side 1 with two new wave tracks from their 1985 Reassembly album. Brian McGlynn is next, with a more alt rock direction. «Soul Doctor» is from his 1985 album The Vital Spark, but I am not sure where «The Crazy Thing» is from. Steve Butler ends side 1 with more alt rock – «Gonna Fly» is from his 1983 album Wave and Drowning, while I am not really sure where «Show Your Love» is from. Side 2 kicks off with the synth pop of The Technos, one of the many incarnations of Steve Fairnie and company. I don’t think these two songs appeared on any of their singles or albums, though. I also don’t know much about Rattling the Cage either, as I can’t find any releases by them. The tape closes out with two solo songs by Deacon Blue frontman Ricky Ross – the first track off of his solo album So Long Ago, while the second track appears to be unreleased.
