Description
Lovely is an album by the American indie rock band Honey, released on Sublime Records in 1997, a sub-label of Essential Records, manufactured and distributed by Brentwood Music. The album was recorded by Chris Colbert at Neverland Studios in Nashville, Tennessee; with Steve Hindalong of The Choir fame producing. Mixed by Colbert at Front Page Studio in Burbank, California.
Honey features Doug Moss on vocals and guitar, Bill Dow on guitar, Paul Lagestee on bass, and Roger Moss on drums.
Although Honey are from Illinois, ‘Lovely’ makes a cool Devon soundtrack, laid back drum grooves mixed with guitars which go from chorusy to full distorted scream. The Choir‘s Steve Hindalong makes his mark on the production, in fact if Derri were the vocalist you could easily mistake the two bands, sound wise, which is no criticism! The songwriting sets it apart, this is a very strong album. Highlights include Paul Lagestee’s creative bass work and the epic «Evergreen». The lyrics are not overtly Christian, in fact this is more like honest, personal poetry. A very personal and emotive album throughout. The mix is sometimes a bit vocal heavy at the expense of the guitars, giving it a pop sheen. But well worth checking out. [Sam Hargreaves, Cross Rhythms, October 1997]
