Description
The self-titled debut album by the American alternative rock band Altar Boys was released on MRC Records in 1984, a sub-label of Maranatha! Music. The album was recorded by Derri Daugherty of The Choir fame and Joe Taylor of Undercover fame at Sound Affair in Santa Ana, California; with Taylor producing. (Except track A4 recorded by Dan Willard at Whitefield Studios in Santa Ana.) Mixed by Daugherty and Taylor at both Whitefield and Sound Affair. All songs written by Mike Annis (a.k.a. Mike Stand) except tracks A3 and A5 co-written with Jeff Crandall.
Altar Boys is Mike Stand on guitar and lead vocals, Steve Pannier on guitar, Rick Alba on bass and keyboards, and Jeff Crandall on drums and vocals. Background vocals provided by Stand, Crandall, and producer Joe Taylor. Bill Walden, the original lead singer of Undercover, is sitting in on saxophone.
The album track “Where’s It Gonna Lead You” was featured on Back to the Rock #2, a multi-artist compilation released by Maranatha! Music in 1983 through their imprint A&S Records. The band was as well featured with the non-album track “Go For You” on the multi-artist compilation What’s Shakin’ released by MRC Records in 1984 (also included as a bonus track on the 2002 CD re-issue).
