Liner notes featured on the back of the LP sleeve:
Giantkiller – “Living for Today” from the album Whose Side You On?
An unusual group this, who have a definite aversion to being labeled as ‘stars’. Based at Middlesborough they are very committed to their church fellowship. They have a real concern for non-Christians to know Jesus in these last days, which is strongly reflected in their music.
Steve Flashman – “Solo” for the album Signwriter
A Baptist minister, though not recognisable at first glance! Steve is a busy man as with James Loring he visits endless schools, churches, weekend retreats, conferences etc! Steve’s policy is not to think twice about finances when accepting a booking, especially if it puts him in front of young people who need to know Christ.
Ishmael – “I’m Gonna Be a Glorie” from the album Land of Hope and Glories
David Pawson calls him ‘one of God’s clowns’, others have called his music ‘of the Devil’! Whatever you may feel about his music, Ish has a knack of reaching young people through his earthy straight-forward approach. From early Ishmael & Andy days, Ish now ministers in zany songs at such places as Spring Harvest and Rustington (!?).
Steve Goddard – “Propaganda” from the album Waiting for Goddard
To those who are familiar with Steve’s ‘blue pyjamas’, his unique style needs no further explanation! His ability to combine humour and penetrating lyrics, plus expressive piano playing, ensures a long-term future for Steve in Christian music. Apart from being a BYFC associate, Steve is also an assistant editor of Buzz.
Thruaglas Darkly – “Modern Man” from the forthcoming Thruaglas album
Many Christian groups are pale imitators of the secular scene, this group have distilled the best and come through with a fresh innovative sound. Based in Fleetwood, Lane, they are prayerfully supported by their local church and they are well known in their local area.
Iva Twydell – “Save Me” from the album Secret Service
Iva was a guitar strumming gospel folk singer, long before he rose to fame as the drummer (he of the multitudinous headgear) for After the Fire. Iva returned to his guitar and a solo ministry and has come up with an incredible debut album.
The Reps – “Rebel” from the forthcoming Reps album
Previously known as Dunamis, the Reps, in their original line up invaded mainland from the Channel Isles in the late 70’s. Their sound has changed over the years to something far more incisive, and this, plus confusion over pronunciation of their original name caused the name-change. Sue Ritter, one of the lead singers, is also something of an author having written a column for Buzz and a book.
Graham Kendrick – “This Is The Fall” from the album Cresta Run
Probably one of the most respected musician’s in the country, Graham has been influential in shaping Christian music away from a purely commercial direction. As National Music Director of BYFC he has a leading role in the education of young musicians. Based at York with his wife and two girls, his music has continued to mature and he is now writing for other recording artists.
Phil Potter – “You Are the Way” from the album Celebrate – The King is Alive!
Despite the fact that Phil is not very well known on the ‘Christian concert circuit’, amazingly he has sung to over 200,000 people in the past year alone. Over the years the appreciation of Phil’s ministry has steadily grown to the point of being invited to join David Watson’s ministry team as a full time member, together with his wife, Joy. Now as Music Director for the Team, his varied style ranging from worship to light rock has been heard from as far apart as New Zealand, Canada, and at many city festivals all over Britain.
Robin and Julie Hawkins – “Things Start Happening” from the album So Much to Sing
Robin has combined for sometime the role of a city gent in London and part-time musical evangelist. He is now well supported by his wife, Julie, who has an excellent trimmed voice. Based in London they minister country-wide at family weekends, businessmen’s gatherings, etc.
Robert Newey – “His Way” from the album Anything You Ask
Rob is a full-time musical evangelist with Good News Crusade, singing at many weekend retreats and tent campaigns. His favourite style is the ballad with a rich voice reminiscent of Dallas Holm. Apart from his solo activities Rob also sings with the country style group The Reapers.
New Beginnings – “Change of Heart” from the album Change of Heart
Steve and Sue, Bernie and Sharon are the two young married couples who make up New Beginnings. Their short time as a group has already taken them to Australia and back and has brought them before thousands in London as the main music group in the ‘Heart for the Nation’ series. Having completed a period with Hildenborough Hall, the band are now committed to a full-time itinerant ministry.
Betty Lou Mills – “If You Love Me” from the album Blessed Are the Pure in Heart
American by birth, Betty now feels her British roots are pretty deep, living as she does in Eastbourn and married to evangelist Russell Mills. Betty has come a long way since her involvement in Christian films, and now has a varied ministry on both sides of the Atlantic, ranging from small churches to the Royal Albert Hall.
Dave and Dana – “Standing in the Middle” from the album Right Track
This Anglo-American duo spend their years split between the States and Britain. Dana’s mellow voice is strongly supported by Dave’s excellent guitar playing. Despite the cost of travel they remain deeply committed to ministry in both continents.
Ginny Ambrose – “Sweet Spirit” from the album Love Line
Ginny is from Canada, but feels a real concern for Britain and Europe. With the support of her British husband, Ginny has ministered at … and has a varied style to please all ages, plus and engaging personality. Ginny intends to come regularity to these shores.
Dave Bilbrough – “Shelter” from the album Lift Me Up
Dave’s songs came to national attention before his name, through compositions such as ‘Abba Father’ and ‘Let There Be Love’. Dave is closely associated with the Romford Fellowship and visits many churches, leading others in praise and worship. Dave has toured the country with the Bind us Together musical and featured recently at the Royal Albert Hall and Spring Harvest.
All the tracks on this album are taken from recent releases by Kingsway Music, except Side 1 track 6 from Redsky Music, and Side 2 track 7 from Mainroads Production Inc.
