Description

NewMix is the fifth studio album by the American Messianic duo Lamb (Joel Chernoff and Rick “Levi” Coghill), released on Sparrow Records in 1981. Also distributed by MCA. The album was recorded by Mitch Goldfarb at Kajem Studios in Gladwyne, Pennsylvania; and was produced by band member Rick Coghill with Goldfarb co-producing. Mixed by Goldfarb, Coghill, and Derrick Graves.

Sparrow Signs Lamb and Messianic

LOS ANGELES – Sparrow Records president Billy Ray Hearn has announced the signing of the duo Lamb to an exclusive, long term contract which includes the entire Messianic Records catalogue. Lamb released five albums on Messianic which will now appear on the Sparrow label. [A note featured in the Gospel section of the October 25, 1980 issue of Record World]

Heavily based on Judaic music styles, Lamb’s first album (and two more following) established them instantly as one of early Jesus music’s premier groups.

‘New Mix’ accurately describes the duo’s newest release, which forsakes the folk medium for an MOR/Top 40 sound. Some of their old fans will be disappointed, but others (plus many new fans) should be pleasantly surprised. Joel Chernoff’s writing ability is still vibrant, as exemplified by the LP’s lone rocker, «Jonah». Complete with unusual effects and fine instrumentation, it convinces.
