Heavenly Metal-Ballads is a multi-artist compilation released in Europe on Pila Music in 1993.

Compilations rarely get my musical tastebuds going but this one is a little bit special! Rather than just throw together half a dozen well-known tunes and mix them with a whole bunch of ‘fillers’, Pila Music have clearly put some thought into just what they wanted to do with this album. To start with, it’s great value, over 72 minutes playing time featuring 16 of Christian music’s finest rock bands, and so its scope is pretty wide and varied. From the more well known metal acts like Whitecross, Bride and Guardian to lesser known but equally worthy Chryztyne and Creed the standard starts high and remains there. The classy AOR of Age Of Faith, Halo and Rachel Rachel, which might otherwise be overlooked by some metalheads, are well represented here too, making for a well rounded collection – a real ‘who’s who’ of Christian rock/metal. Well packaged, this is a great starting point to get into Christian rock. For those already ‘converted’ an excellent reference work and great for banging on when you’re not quite sure who you want to listen to. Recommended. [Andy Barnes, Cross Rhythms, April 1994]
