Description
Theophilus is an album by the American folk trio Hope, self-released in 1974. The album was recorded at Appalachia Sound Studios in Chillicothe, Ohio.
Splendid batch of homemade country folk-rocking originals from two guys and one gal known as Hope, with musical assistance from a few of their friends. Wholesome natural outdoor atmosphere, including moody pastoral hippie folk-rock, acoustic ballads, rural rock, gospel blues and mid-tempo head-bobbin’ toe-tappin’ tunes. Mostly an acoustic focus plus a couple electric tracks, enhanced with ingredients like fiddle, mandolin, piano, flute and harmonica, led by dreamy humble relaxed harmonies. Sample titles include «Connection», «God Fearin’ Woman – Good Christian Man», «He Told Me Like It Is», «I Saw Your Light» and «Third Heaven & Earth». Similar in many ways to a lot of the early Maranatha country line-up, yet with simpler production and a more authentic feel. [Ken Scott, The Archivist, 4th edition]
