Honest Tear is the third and final album by the American alternative rock band The Lonely Now, released on Narrowpath Records in 1990, distributed by Refuge Records through Spectra Distribution. The cassette-only album was produced, recorded, and mixed by band member Greg Sostrom at the Basement during September 1989 and March 1990.
Featuring Greg Sostrom on lead vocals and bass (a.k.a. Greg Strange, founder of Narrowpath Records); Kevin Eberle on keyboards and vocals; Phil James on guitar and vocals; and Brian Wilson on drums and classical guitar.
This is the third and last album by The Lonely Now, three years after 1987’s Original Intentions. Narrowpath Records had joined up with Refuge Records at this time, so I have always wondered if this album was also released on CD. I have never seen it if it was. Anyways, they go for a less aggressive and heavy release this time, but it still dials in that late 1980s alternative rock sound well. Sostrum also has an entirely new band around him this time around. Narrowpath Records went quiet after this for a few years, but Sostrum started going by Greg Stange and released a pair of adult alternative rock albums for Ocean Records, continuing the style he started to develop here.
