Behind the Cover

Description

Behind the Cover is the seventh album by the American singer and songwriter Tami Gunden, released on Drexion Records in 1992, a division of Alternative Music Group, distributed by Spectra. The album was produced by John Andrew Schreiner. Featuring the AC/CHR single “Behind the Cover” penned by Michael W. Smith.

It’s been five years since Gunden topped the charts with several singles from her last album. Since that time, the still quite young vocalist has married and had a child, both of which have figured in her more mature lyrical approach. For her comeback, Gunden has assembled an impressive team of musicians, including Bill Batstone, Bob Wilson, Tim Chandler and John Schreiner, who also produces this breezy pop effort. Gunden has a heart for ministry, and when you perform this type of «California Dreamin’»-inspired music, that means a ministry to teens and young adults. Along with the top-notch compositions of she and her brother John, Gunden tackles never-before-recorded songs by Phil Keaggy and Michael W. Smith. Schreiner’s production approach is somewhat dated, as he seems to aping The Bangles or Belinda Carlisle when Wilson Phillips should be his model. But Gunden belts out the tunes with aplomb, occasionally taking a serious tack, but mostly putting a sunny spin on her Christian walk. [Bruce A. Brown, CCM, September 1992]
