Description
The self-titled, sole full-length album by the American pop/rock group Tamarack was independently released on Parbar Music in 1981 in co-operation with MRC Records, a sub-label of Maranatha! Music. The album was recorded at Poiema Studios in Camarillo, California; with Jonathan David Brown producing. (Tracks B1 and B2 recorded by Thom Roy at Whitefield Studios in Santa Ana, California.)
Two of the album tracks – “Good Times, Bad Times” and “Here I Am” – were as well included on Back to the Rock, a multi-artist compilation released by Maranatha! Music through their label A&S Records in 1981. In addition the band self-released a two-sided 7-inch promo single in January 1980.
Tamarack features Cathy Spurr (Catherine Holt Spurr) on vocals and percussion; Debbie McNeil on vocals and acoustic piano; Rob Watson on keyboards (Fender Rhodes, Prophet 5, Elka strings, and Synclavier II on track A3) and vocals; Wayne Brasel on electric guitars; and a rhythm section consisting John Patitucci on bass and Dave Spurr on drums and percussion. (Rob Watson was as well known for his creative work with Daniel Amos, Wayne Brasel was a session guitarist connected to various Maranatha! Music artists including John Mehler, Dave Spurr had been drumming for Fourth Estate, while John Patitucci of course is the legendary jazz musician and one of the leading bass players of his era. Cathy Spurr and Debbie McNeil later formed the pop duo Spurr & McNeil that released an album entitled A Taste of Eternity on the Maranatha! Music sub-label A&S Records in 1984.)
