Description
Doors Open Wide is the sophomore album by the American pop/rock band Sunday Drive, released on Diadem Music Group in 1999, a division of Reunion Records, manufactured and distributed in the US by Provident Music Distribution. The album was produced by Matt Huesmann.
Sadly, yet another example of mid tempo pop rock from across the pond. Stylistically nothing appears to have changed since the band’s debut in ’96. Cleancut compositions, impeccably produced by Matt Huesmann, are the order of the day, complete with rather shallow, predictable lyrics. What ‘Doors Open Wide’ does have going for it is compelling Beatle-esque acoustic ballad («God Is Good») along with some good vocal arrangements («Am I The One» and the soul tinged «Sunshine»). Though sonically safe enough to play to your dog (mine goes running for cover at anything heavier than a coffee mug!), there are plenty of well delivered hook laden tunes to satisfy any who venture a spin. Overall, a good though far from groundbreaking album from a band who don’t seem to have yet realised their full potential. [Alex Figgis, Cross Rhythms, August 1999]
