Space

Description

Space is the debut album by the American modern rock band Bleach, released on ForeFront Records in 1996, distributed in the US by Chordant Distribution Group. The album was recorded by Marcelo Pennell at 9070 Studios in Brentwood and at The Salt Mine and House of Insomnia in Franklin, Tennessee; with Barry Blair of Audio Adrenaline fame producing. Mixed by Pennell.

Bleach, a modern rock band hailing from Kentucky, has put together 11 hard-hitting songs for ‘space’, its debut album. Produced by Barry Blair of Audio Adrenaline, ‘space’ packs the same sort of “hard pop” musical punch as Bush and Better than Ezra without the negative imagery usually associated with the music of such general market bands. Instead, Bleach offers a hopeful message.

Leading off, «Eleven» encourages the listener to “Let Him kiss your sins away.” «Perfect Family» is about just that, while «Tea for Two» is a call for peace in the midst of an “eye for an eye” society. The irresistible «Crystal and Cash» challenges the New Age worldview of a fictional character, asking, “Have you ever thought just possibly/ Your ideals are a twisted philosophy/ By a man in a suit who loves currency?”

‘Space’ is one of the stronger rock debuts in the Christian market in recent memory. For a debut project, it is remarkably catchy and full sounding. An album this crisp, feisty, and musically competitive with what is happening in general market rock is hard not to like.

For those who are looking for something a bit more trendy, explore this ‘space’. [Michael Ciani, CCM, December 1996]
