Check this out, daddy O! Seems this real hep cat was earning his way through college performing as the mascot for the Tennessee Volunteers. Along the way he detoured into swing city, and now he’s jumpin’ and jivin’ as Andrew Carlton and the Swing Doctors, with a debut release titled It’s a Swing Thing.

While it’s obvious I’m a pretender at the lingo, rest assured Andrew Carlton and the Swing Doctors are the real thing when it comes to Christian-themed swing tunes. The immediate attention-grabber here is «Swing Thing», an energetic romp testifying about Christ’s resurrection and punctuated by trumpet blasts and solos. Immediately following that is «Home», a tingly little tune made all the more fun by its killer drum solo intro and a jazzy, rat-a-tat-tat lyrical delivery. And there’s «Are You Sure», a boppin’ melody sure to make fans of The W’s happy. Other potential hits are sweet tunes like «Holy Man» and «Seeds». [Mike Nappa, CCM, March 1999]
