Description
The Tree of Life is an album by Norwegian folk quartet Vi Fire (“The Four of Us”), independently released in the US on Artronics in 1971. The album was engineered by Art Boyd. Produced by Artronics, Inc. Arranged by the group. All songs written by group member Morten Fr. Lund except track A5 featuring music by Beethoven with lyrics translated to Norwegian by Olav Hillestad, track A6 featuring music and lyrics by Tom Andersen (translated by Lund), as well as track B1 (the Beatles classic “Nowhere Man”), track B4 (Paul Simon’s “Punky’s Dilemma”), track B6 (John Denver’s “Leaving On A Jetplane”), and track B5 («Vi skal ikkje sova bort sumarnatta» is a well-known Norwegian ballad featuring lyrics by Aslaug Låstad Lygre and music by composer Geirr Tveitt).
Lutheran Youth Encounter sponsored this Norwegian folk group to come to the US and share their faith in song to American youth. The foursome does a fine job, too, presenting a fresh mix of originals («Prayer», «Laer Meg», «Someone Who Needs It») and cover songs («Nowhere Man», «Punky’s Dilemma», «Leaving On A Jet Plane»). Opens with the autobiographical «Vi Fire», which when translated into English means We Four. One girl (Mette Lund) and three guys (Oystein Andresen – guitar, Harald Eide – electric bass, Morten Fr. Lund – guitar). Four of the twelve selections are sung in Norwegian, including «Kristus Konge» to the tune of «Joyful Joyful We Adore Thee». The affecting harmonies, acoustic guitar work and simple yet vibrant arrangements make for an enjoyable listening experience. Minnesota custom label. [Ken Scott, The Archivist]
Vi Fire from Norway
Lutheran Youth Encounter is pleased to share the vision and enthusiasm of the “We Four” with you as they present the gospel of Christ through song. Their original arrangements and lyrics put a fresh and challenging dimension into the communication of the good news of God’s love.
These young people also represent an ever expanding international ministry of LYE that bridges the oceans and embraces the lives of people in Europe, Africa and Asia.
An international ministry must be a two way street. We in America have much to learn from Christians from other lands. The appearance of the “We Four” in America is a significant step in that direction.
Lutheran Youth Encounter is an independent, international Lutheran youth movement crossing synodical lines in youth to youth evangelism. Teams of college age youth are enlisted and trained to serve in churches in a supportive, witnessing role as they share the promises and claims of Jesus Christ. Headquarters are on the Campus of the University of Minn.

Once again we have been together in fellowship.
Several hard working hours, coupled with fantastic engineering helped to perpetuate a message through our songs. The world of music is huge and this album is a small contribution to the “music world”.
More than ever before music is used as a “tool” to spread the message about CHRIST.
“We Fire” consists of Øystein Andresen – guitar, Harald Eide – electric bass, Mette Lund, and Morten Fr. Lund – guitar. All of the members are in their early twenties. We are all involved in Christian youth work in the congregation of Manglerud, Norway. We were invited by Lutheran Youth Encounter to come to America and share our faith with American youth.
“We believe that every may must have a personal relationship with Christ and this relationship must show on the life we live.”
