Adventures in the Land of Big Beats & Happy Feets

Description

Adventures in the Land of Big Beats & Happy Feets is a compilation of extended edits and remixes of previously released tracks by various Myrrh Records artists (the even-numbered tracks), released on Myrrh Records in 1989, a division of Word. The tracks were remixed and edited by Lee Cahuenga (who actually is Mark Heard incognito). The odd-numbered tracks are written and produced by Lee Cahuenga.

Don’t tell anyone, but Myrrh Records has just committed the unpardonable sin by releasing a (gasp) dance album.

Sporting a title which hints on Psalty the Singing Songbook meeting New Order, ‘…Big Beats and Happy Feets’ combines remixes of previously recorded Word hits buffed by in-house custom excursions in a 60-minute salute featuring the likes of «Wise Up», «Svengali» and «I Just Want to Celebrate».

The project, produced by Tom Willett and Mark Heard (iDEoLA), sets a precedent for Christian music and delivers fairly believable dance tracks for both the closet groove king and the conservative treadmill-type who have waited patiently for their favorite singles to receive digital surgery.

Whether the consumer base responds to the creative advertising stimuli or not, it was an album which had to be attempted sooner or later. Maybe now, Christian aerobic classes can last for more than fifteen minutes. [Kevin Allison, CCM, August 1989]
