Description
Living Sacrifice, sub-titled Songs of Living Faith, is an album by Britain’s Saltmine Band, Dave Pope, Chris Eaton and friends, released on DaySpring Records in 1983, a division of Word. The album was recorded by Nigel Pegrum at Pace Studios in Milton Keynes, England; and was produced by singer-songwriter and keyboardist Chris Eaton of Mark Williamson Band fame. (Eaton actually had gigged regularly with Pope while a teenager.) Arranged by Chris Eaton and Geoff Baker.
At the time of its release Dave Pope told Buzz magazine that “it’s been done with a very small budget compared with my previous albums but the end result is one I am excited about. It’s important on a worship album to get what I call a ‘Spirit-filled groove’.” The album features a variety of worship songs from the UK (Marilyn Baker’s “Jesus You Are Changing Me” and Keith Routledge’s “The Truth, The Life, The Way”) as well as the US (Gary Chapman’s “I’m Yours Lord“, Amy Grant’s “Mountain Top“, Laurie Klein’s “I Love You Lord”, and the Bruce Hibbard/Hadley Hockensmith/Michael Omartian classic “Forgiven“).
The Saltmine Band (a.k.a. “Dave Pope & The Saltmine Band”) were a Christian music group active mid eighties to mid nineties which later became the “Funky Beehive” then simply “Beehive“. “Beehive” was a white five-piece that were together for about 10 years, reputed to be one of the UK’s hardest gigging gospel acts with 200+ gigs a year. They won the MOBO Award for Best Gospel Artist in 1997 but split a couple of years later.
