Description
Lusis is the debut album by the American industrial band Mortal, released on Intense Records in 1992, an imprint of the Frontline Music Group releasing FMG’s industrial/metal output. The album was recorded and mixed by Rob Watson at both Mixing Lab A and B in Garden Grove, California; with Terry Scott Taylor of Daniel Amos fame producing.
Mortal’s dance/industrial music makes a welcome change within the Christian field. People who appreciate the industrial influence of bands like Nine Inch Nails or dance/metal crossovers like Growforce, should enjoy Mortal’s drum machine/keyboard rhythm tracks, over-layed with well-distorted guitars. The refreshingly intelligent lyrics are often vocally distorted in typical industrial manner with sampled film-track style voices regularly featured. Helpful commentaries/thoughts appear on the lyric sheet. Stand out tracks are «Mythox», «Cryptic» and the more laid back «Rescinding» while the dark «Sinnister» featuring some seriously heavy guitars. «Enfleshed» appears twice on the album; a remix without verses on the tape and a remix with distorted vocals on the CD. The LP was brilliantly produced by the unique Terry Taylor, he of Daniel Amos (DA) fame. A very striking debut. [Ian Arkley, Cross Rhythms, October 1992]
