Yesterday’s Left Behind

Description

Yesterday’s Left Behind is the fourth solo album by the American singer, songwriter, guitarist, and producer David Zaffiro of Bloodgood fame, released on Frontline Records in 1994, distributed by Diamante Distribution. The album was produced by David Zaffiro for Zaffiro Productions. Mixed by Zaffiro and Steven Patrick of Holy Soldier fame.

Zaffiro has fashioned a pretty respectable career since resigning his position as guitarist and songwriting foil for Michael Bloodgood a few years back. Besides three previous solo efforts, David has done a fair amount of production work, most notably for Brett Williams and In Reach. On this latest outing, Zaffiro the producer and Zaffiro the recording artist are more in sync than ever before. Even though he’s working with programmed drum tracks, the rhythms never seem stiff or mechanical, owing not only to Zaffiro’s sharp compositional Instincts, but the presence of the fluid bass playing of White Heart‘s Anthony Sallee on several tracks. The artist always fashions memorable melodic hooks and takes economical guitar solos which highlight his skills without bogging down the material. Zaffiro gives up the mic to Steven Patrick (Holy Soldier) on one tune, but does most of the lead and often all of the background vocals himself. Yet even when Zaffiro works completely alone (as he does on four songs), his improved singing and songwriting always achieve first-rate results. [Bruce A. Brown, CCM, March 1994]
