After the Rain is an album by the American rock band Daybreak, released on Holy Kiss Records in 1976. The album was recorded by Travis Turk and Richard Shook at Celebration Studios and Ironside Recording Studio in Nashville, Tennessee; with Randy Matthews and his father Monty Matthews producing for Holy Kiss Productions. Songs written by Jim Nafziger (tracks: A1, A2, A4, B3, B6), Vernon Stoltzfus (tracks: A3, B2, B5), Ray Sauder (B1), and Daryl Shirk (B4). Also featuring “Movin’ on”, a song written by Jim Stauffer and recorded by his band Zechariah on their self-titled album.
Featuring Daryl Shirk on lead vocals; Vernon Stoltzfus on piano and lead vocals; Mike Johnson on piano, lead guitar, and bass; Jim Nafziger on lead guitar, harmonica, and vocals; Marlin Nafziger on bass and vocals; Fred Miller on drums; and Bobby Daniels on drums and percussion.
With production comparable to most Christian labels, After The Rain introduced the new and improved Daybreak. Of immediate notice are the deeper more polished harmonies and background vocals. But the style is completely different as well. «Who’s Fool Are You?» shows surprising guitar crunch (“I’m a fool for Christ’s sake, who’s fool are you?”), as do «Lord Forgive Me» and «Back On The Road». Everything is within a safe cheerful rural rocking mindset – nothing too radical, but it’s definitely a rock album and a decent one at that. The ballads also seem to fit properly into their pastoral style without becoming smarmy. All originals except for a cover of «Movin’ On» from fellow Pennsylvanians Zechariah. Mike Johnson appears on bass, lead guitar and piano. The album is dedicated to the memory of the previous drummer Ray Sauder (also author of the title track) who drowned in 1975.
