Description
The self-titled, sixth studio album by the American pop/rock band David & the Giants was released on Priority Records in March 1982, a short-lived gospel division of CBS Records. The album was produced by band member David Huff. Featuring the Muscle Shoals Horns.
David and the Giants are a four-member group, with three of the members brothers, and two of those brothers, twins! The other member has grown up since we knew him as Little Ricky on the longest-running syndicated TV show, “I Love Lucy.”
As their first Priority Records release, ‘David and the Giants’ (JU37936) is an outstanding effort. Produced by “The Inspiration of the Holy Spirit” as well as the whole band, ‘David…’ combines mainstream rock with clean and clear vocals by David Huff.
Most of the songs are top contenders for A/C or rock radio. Although written in the “verse one, chorus, verse two” formula, the songs are different enough musically to stand out individually.
«Rock ‘N Roll Blues» is a slap-at-the-past song about faded rock stars, and is one of the LP’s best cuts. «Noah» is another favorite. In mocking, echoing voices, Noah’s neighbors call him crazy – until it begins to rain. «America (In God We Used To Trust)» is a patriotic, sentimental look at the country founded on hope and love, and how we forget we were established through trust in God. «God is Love» may be most suited for airplay, as it is musically, vocally and spiritually excellent.
