All of us anticipate the release of our favorite group’s next release with a certain delight. We relish the anticipation of a new high water mark. But often we can gain greater delight in finding a gem in an unexpected record. Such a special treat is ‘Shout!’, the new album by blues veteran Larry Howard.
What we have in ‘Shout!’ is not a derivative blues record, but an authentic blues celebration by Howard and band. Howard, who paid his dues with blues outfit Grinderswitch, has filled ‘Shout’ chock-full o’ blues. Punchy and driving, you can hear the celebration of his faith in the songs.
‘Shout’ is a wonderful album – a must for blues and blues/rock fans. This album is joyous, exciting and complete with a clear message. What more can we ask? [Devlin Donaldson, CCM, February 1989]
