Wings of the Morning

Description

Wings of the Morning is the seventh album by the British singer, songwriter, and blues guitarist Bryn Haworth, released on Chapel Lane in 1983. The album was recorded between December 1982 and July 1983 by Dave Charles, Paul Cobbold, and Rob Andrews at Chapel Lane Studios in Hereford, England; with Bryn Haworth producing. Mixed by Cobbold. Most of the tracks written by Bryn Haworth. Also featuring a cover of “I Found A Love”, a song written by Steven Soles and recorded on his album The Promise released on Maranatha! Music in 1980. Wings of the Morning is considered a groundbreaking album in the field of contemporary praise & worship music with its focus on folk/roots music.

On this album Bryn Haworth – featured on vocals, various types of guitars, as well as mandolin and harpolek – is backed by a rhythm section consisting of Dave Markee on bass and Henry Spinetti on drums (known as the rhythm section of Eric Clapton in the late ’70s), with Pete Wingfield sitting in on piano on a couple of tracks. Two of the album tracks – “Strong Wall” and “He Is Lord” – feature Alan “Bam” King on guitar, Terry “Tex” Comer on bass, and Fran Byrne on drums (a.k.a. three of the founding members of the British ’70s rock band Ace whose single “How Long?” reached No. 3 in the US in 1975).

More vintage music from Britain’s beloved singer/guitarist, ‘Wings Of The Morning’ brings out the less electric side of Bryn Haworth showing that his slide is equally spine-tingling when skidding across an acoustic 12-string and continues worship classics like «Make Us Holy» and «What Kind Of Love Is This». It’s amazing how little this music has dated. [Tony Cummings, Cross Rhythms, June 1995]

Someone asked ‘how did you become a Christian’, so I put it in a song; «More Than A Tent» from my album Wings Of The Morning released in 1983. We’d just moved to Sussex and I had a picture come to me which I put down in poster paints. A few days later we saw the tent in a field and went in… – Bryn Haworth
