Under a Blood Red Sky

Description

Under a Blood Red Sky is a live mini-album by the Irish rock band U2, released on Island Records in November 1983. The album consists of live recordings from three shows on the band’s War Tour, from Boston (May 6th 1983) and Denver (June 5th 1983) in the US and from Rockplast 83, Germany (August 20th 1983). Produced by Jimmy Iovine and mixed by Shelly Yakus.

Along with its companion concert film, U2 Live at Red Rocks: Under a Blood Red Sky, released the following year, the album helped establish U2’s reputation as a live band, making the band a popular live college rock act. Unlike the album, the film was recorded entirely at the outdoor Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Denver, on June 5th 1983.

Under a Blood Red Sky was (along with The Unforgettable Fire) included among CCM Magazine‘s Top 10 Albums of the Year, voted number seven on a list featuring ten albums released between November 1, 1983 and October 15, 1984. – The biggest surprise of the year comes from U2, as the group places two albums in the Top 10. ‘Under a Blood Red Sky’, a live LP released early this year, gave fans a survey of songs from the band’s past LPs. In the February review, Granger said: “Although all three of U2’s studio albums have had a significant amount of spiritual content, ‘Under a Blood Red Sky’ may state their beliefs most clearly and dramatically.”
