Description
Yours Ever is the debut album by the Irish folk-pop duo Stewart and Kyle (Alistair Stewart and Chris Kyle), released on Grapevine Records in 1976. The album was recorded by John Taylor at Grosvenor Studios in Birmingham, England; with John Pac of Parchment fame producing. Mixed by Dave Cooke and Helmut Kaufmann at ICC Studios in Eastbourne, England.
Featuring Alistair Stewart and Chris Kyle on vocals and acoustic guitars, backed by a session band featuring Mo Witham on lead guitar and a rhythm section consisting of Nick Ryan on bass and Mike Wade on drums, with Robert McKay sitting in on saxophone, flute, and clarinet.
I once saw a catalog describe Yours Ever as “either incredibly dull or higher-key ethereal folk”. listeners have often faced quandaries of this nature with folks like Dan Fogelberg, a performer I happen to admire and with whom Stewart & Kyle (their last names) sometimes strike a note of resemblance. My wife just said “that’s kind of pleasant” so I guess that clinches it. Their music is acoustic folk, soft and orchestrated, very melodic, with classy vocals, guitar, and piano. Occasionally drifts into innocuous pop. Isn’t It Strange and Temporary Residence have their moments but not quite the charm. [Ken Scott, The Archivist]
