In the Company of Angels: A Call to Worship is the fifth studio album by the American folk-rock band Caedmon’s Call, released on Essential Records in September 2001, a division of Brentwood Music. The album was recorded by Bob Boyd at Sunrise Studios and Second Studios in Houston, Texas; with Boyd, Ed Cash (tracks 1,2,4,5,9), Joshua Moore, and the band producing. (Two of the tracks were recorded live in concert, March 2001: The Byrd/Hindalong classic “God of Wonders” was recorded live at Texas A&M University; while “Warrior” was recorded live at The Logos Service/Second Baptist Church in Houston. In addition, “The Danse” was recorded by Derri Daugherty at Earful Studios and mixed at Dark Horse Recording in Franklin, Tennessee.) Most tracks mixed by Bob Boyd at Ambient Digital in Houston. Arranged by Joshua Moore. “Warrior” is a cover of the title track of the sole album by the band ArkAngel, originally released in 1980.
The album was followed up with the 2006-release In the Company of Angels II: The World Will Sing.
Very much a departure for the hugely successful Houston band, this intimate offering aims to reflect the same spirit of community worship they helped develop at Logos five years ago. Imaginatively self-produced in conjunction with 18-year old prodigy Joshua Moore (who penned the opener «Who You Are»), gems include the previously unreleased Rich Mullins song «Oh Lord Your Love» and a live version of «God Of Wonders», not to mention the expertly crafted studio tracks. For the first time, each member takes a part in the songwriting process and it shows – this is a refreshingly diverse listen from an ever improving band. [Lins Honeyman, Cross Rhythms, November 2001]
