An album simply entitled Live is the third effort by the American pop/soft-rock group Andrus, Blackwood & Company, released on Greentree Records in 1980. The album was recorded live with Fanta Mobile in a hotel ballroom (the Florida Room Of The Executive Inn) in Evansville, Indiana; with Bill Fast, John Rosen, and Mervin Louque engineering. Mixed by Bob Clark at Soundshop Recording Studios and Sound Stage Studios in Nashville, Tennessee; with Phil Johnson producing.
Andrus Blackwood & Co. features Sherman Andrus on lead vocals, Terry Blackwood on lead vocals and keyboards, Karen Voegtlin on keyboards and vocals, Bob Villareal on lead guitar and vocals, Rocky Laughlin on bass, and Billy Blackwood on drums.
Sherman Andrus and Terry Blackwood are no strangers to performing. A live concert by Andrus, Blackwood & Co. is an inspirational and entertaining experience, and this album recorded live at the Executive Inn in Evansville, Ind., captures their performance fairly accurately.
One of the highlights of the album (and in concert, of course) is their Las Vegas-type rendition of «Wonderful» during which Sherman dons sunglasses and announces that the group is about to do one of their “hits.” Without the visual, the bit loses something, but it’s funny nonetheless.
The band is tight, with Billy Blackwood on drums, Rocky Laughlin on bass, Bob Villareal on lead guitar and Karen Voegtlin on keyboards. The recording quality is excellent, as is the performance. This collection of 11 A, B & Co’s best tunes should please their fans. [CCM (Records – What’s New), July 1980]
