Play It Again

Description

Play It Again is an album by the American singer and songwriter Ed Kilbourne, independently released on Airborn Records in 1980, a custom label co-founded by Kilbourne and Ron Moore. The album was produced, recorded, and mixed by Ron Moore at Airborn Studios in Flint, Michigan. Featuring Ed Kilbourne on acoustic guitar and vocals, backed by Bill Allen on bass and Pat Quinn on drums, both of the Angel Band.

Acquiring the complete Ed Kilboume album collection might well prove to be a formidable challenge. So far I’ve counted ten, from primitive solo-with-guitar offerings like The Good News and I Know Where I’m Going all the way up through 1982’s A Place To Watch The Rain. The older ones are almost exclusively simple renditions of popular tunes fronted by Ed’s easy-going vocals, a bit meek and breathy at first but very much improved by the time of the early Airborn releases, a custom label he co-founded with artist Ron Moore. The ones listed above are the best of the lot. By this time he was including three to four of his own songs while also adding some basic Georgia country folk-rock instrumentation to his simple acoustic style for a fuller sound Along the journey you’ll encounter a few unexpected ditties like «Rubber Ducky» and «At Seventeen», as well as material by Kenny Loggins, Gordon Lightfoot, John Prine, Jerry Jeff Walker, John Denver, Jim Croce, Tom Paxton and John Hartford.

In case you wanted to go for the whole Ed Kilbourne enchilada, here they are. I once saw an Ed Kilbourne record offered – anyone know anything about that one? Addition information can be found on Ed’s Web site and his store has his albums. [Ken Scott, The Archivist, 4th edition]
