Sing Life, Sing Love

Description

Sing Life, Sing Love is the full-length solo debut album by the British singer and songwriter Peter Lewis of The Liverpool Raiders fame, released in the UK on Pilgrim Records in 1969, a division of Marshall, Morgan & Scott, Ltd.

Featuring Peter Lewis on vocals (as well as acoustic guitar on tracks A4, A7, B4, and B6), backed by Ike Isaacs on acoustic guitar, Ron Prentice on electric bass guitar, as well as Art Morgan and Stan Bourke on drums. Musical arrangements, piano, and organ by Peter Bye.

Now Peter Lewis spends most of his time in travelling the country, singing and playing his guitar not only in Churches but also in schools, colleges, universities, clubs, prisons and communities of every kind – or as he says, high-Church, low-Church or no-Church. He uses his music to try and break down some of the artificial barriers and prejudices imposed by age, social class, culture, tradition or religion, in fact anything that prevents or inhibits the fullest expression of man’s love for God and for his neighbour.

Some of the songs that Peter sings are published in ‘Sing Life, Sing Love’ (Publishers: Holmes McDougall Ltd., Edinburgh) and it is a selection from that book that is featured on this album. Although the songs come from various sources, including four by Peter himself, they collectively express something of what Peter feels about life, about love and about Jesus – all of which are, for the real Christians, inseparably interwoven – and these simple, singable tunes can quickly be learned and enjoyed by everyone, while the words are meaningful and speak clearly about man’s experience of life today, with all its problems yet with its tremendous opportunities. [Excerpt from a note on the back of the LP sleeve]

British folk singer joined here by a small combo providing a light beat along with guitar, organ, piano and bass. Lewis has a particular love for Sydney Carter, covering five of his songs here. Also four Lewis originals including the title track (which he also performed on the Reflection label’s ‘Hosanna: A Portrait Of Jesus‘) and my personal favourite «Dazzling New And Super You».” [Ken Scott, The Archivist, 4th edition]
