Description
Show Me a Rainbow is the debut full-length album by the British singer and songwriter Pauline Filby, released in the UK on Herald in 1969. Featuring guitarist Gordon Giltrap on four tracks.
Later Pauline Filby became member of the folk-rock band Narnia who released Aslan Is Not A Tame Lion on Myrrh Records in 1974. The band was fronted by Filby and featured members as John Russell and Peter Banks, both later of After The Fire fame.
She was the lead singer for the British progressive outfit Narnia who have a much sought after LP on England’s Myrrh label. Well five years before that she put out this even more elusive folk LP that’s currently selling for ungodly figures. Gordon Giltrap fans will want this, too, since he donates his acoustic guitar wizardry to several songs. The liner warns this is not just a series of folky-type religious tunes – amen to that! There’s thought, care, and variety put into every tune: breathy torch songs, acoustic blues and jazz, hypnotic and dreamy landscapes, sorrowful ballads, mean folky jamming. Stark arrangements spotlight the acoustic guitar and Pauline’s lovely vocals. On «Friday Street» she’s accompanied solely by jazz clarinet. Closes with a bouncy jam rendition of «Amen» with Out of Darkness drummer Tim Anderson providing the big beat. Primo UK folk off the beaten path. See also EP section.
