Description
The self-titled four-track cassette-EP by the American alternative pop/rock band The Walk was self-released in 1986. The Walk features Byron Barnshaw on vocals, acoustic guitar, saxophone, and keyboards, Jeff Butz on electric guitar, Jim Schneck on bass and vocals, and Bruce Bistline on drums.
The Walk became better known later for releasing Indianland in 1990 on Talkingtown Records. I believe Talkingtown was distributed by R.E.X. Music or some other larger label as well. None of the songs on this demo made it on to their full-length label debut, but you can see why they were signed. They do the 80s alternative sound very well here, with slight influences of the usual suspects like U2 and The Smiths and so on. But nothing that is so derivative that they sound like a clone, either. They followed this tape with a full-length tape called Longing in 1987. All of the songs on this tape were re-recorded for that tape. [Christian Tape Underground, December 29, 2020]
