Description
Soul Inspiring is a four-track cassette EP by the British indie pop band The Crimeless Criminals, released on Plankton Records in November 1985.
Featuring Glen Spring and Mark Lawford on vocals and lead guitar, backed by Eric Lives on mandolin, Paul Marshall on saxophone, Mags Law on keyboards and backing vocals, and Simon Law on bass and backing vocals, with Nigel Palmer providing drum programming.
It appears that Plankton Records is getting some of their older releases out there in the digital world – meaning you can give them a listen on YouTube or other streaming services. Of course, being on a label it could be questionable as to whether these releases were really underground in England – but they were a part of the tape underground in the U.S., because the places that sold indie demos were also often the places that sold imports like these. Anyways, this is an early 80s rock group with a cheesy name that leaned a bit into alternative rock here and there (see the bass line on «Video»). But they also had saxophone solos and other hallmarks of 80s rock as well. The backing band is made up of various members of Fresh Claim, Sea Stone, and the Plankton Records regulars.
