Man, this is a big stretch from The Impressions’ original version of «People Get Ready» to Tramaine Hawkins’ early ’90s song «Changed». However it does take in the major gospel artists of the era including Edwin Hawkins’ classic «Oh Happy Day», The Staple Singers’ Stax classic «I’ll Take You There» as well as Andrae Crouch, Mighty Clouds Of Joy, Al Green, The Winans and Commissioned. If you thought that gospel music began with Kirk Franklin or Fred Hammond, this is worth a listen to bring you up to speed on early developments worth investigating.
