Trin-i-tee 5:7

Description

The self-titled debut album by the American contemporary R&B/urban gospel trio Trin-i-tee 5:7 was released on B-Rite Music in 1998, a division of Gospo Centric Records, manufactured and distributed in the US by Zomba Recording Corporation.

Another class act from the growing movement of young female groups whose R&B/hip hop sensibilities take the old old story out there to a hip black urban audience. The sistas get most of their effect when there’s a thudding groove over which to purr, growl and intone soulful harmonies and with no less than nine different producers/production teams helping with the programming there’s no shortage of authentic street sounds. The ballads here work less well, sometimes the needless elaborations of three girls each capable of carrying the lead all but bury the melodies in melismatic excess. But when they’ve got a goodish song, like on «I Won’t Turn Back» produced by R&B megastar R Kelly, or the old Staples Singers classic «Respect Yourself», this is thoroughly engaging R&B gospel for today’s generation.
