Description
Reel, Folk’n’Rock’n’Roll is an album by the British Celtic folk-rock band The Electrics, released on the Germany label Pleitegeier Records/PGF Media in 2001. The album was recorded by Jordan Richter at Ted’s Place in Jamestown, Scotland; and The Mission in Nashville, Tennessee, USA; with Phil Madeira producing. Additional recording by Madeira and band member Sammy Horner. Mixed by Madeira at The Mission. Featuring a cover of “Rejoice And Be Happy”, a song written by Gordon Gano and originally recorded by his group the Violent Femmes on their 1998-album, Freak Magnet.
You should be able to get this in the UK Christian bookshops pretty soon but if, like me, you’re clammoring to get your hands on the latest CD from the world’s greatest Christian rock’n’reel band, The Electrics’ leader Sammy Horner will sell you a German import (intriguingly, Scotland’s finest are signed to a German secular company). Though recorded in Nashville, this riotous romp of rollicking jigs, surprisingly gutsy rock guitars and Sammy’s wonderful way with lyrics, make this a million miles away from Nashville production line stuff. Producer Phil Madeira wisely lets the songs speak for themselves and whether plaintive («Kaydee’s Lament») or romping («Finest Fiddle On The Earth»), the effect is continually engaging. Another Electrics album to treasure. [Tony Cummings, Cross Rhythms, May 2002]
