Live at Cornerstone 2000

Description

Live at Cornerstone 2000 is a live album by the American alternative rock band The Choir, independently released on the band’s own label Galaxy21 Music in 2000. Also released by Millenium Eight Records the same year featuring new cover art. (Millenium Eight as well released an unplugged live album by The Choir recorded at Cornerstone the same year.) The album was recorded, edited, and mixed by Rev Hilstrom for Creation Station and was produced by the band. The CD was dedicated to the late Gene Eugene of Adam Again fame (“We miss you down here – Gene Eugene”).

The Choir features Derri Daugherty, Marc Byrd, Dan Michaels, Tim Chandler, and Steve Hindalong.

It’s always great to play at Cornerstone. We’re honored to boast that we were the first band ever to perform at the festival! We called ourselves “Youth Choir” then. It was 1984…side stage…noon. This time it was 2000… Encore I (circus tent)… midnight. To be honest – right now, as I write the album foreward, I haven’t heard this recording. Neither have the other guys – except for Dan Michaels. He claims it turned out alright; so… in order not to be tempted to try to fix anything, we decided to trust the wind and “let if fly”. Here’s how I recall the night: Tim Chandler, my favorite musician of all time, was thunderous and smooth as always on bass guitar. Dan sounded surprisingly fine on sax… considering it had been awhile, and his mouth hurt. His lyricon only worked part of the time; but what’s new? The counter melodies and lush tones were marvelously provided by our friend, Marc Byrd (from Common Children) on electric guitar, taking a lot of pressure off Derri (Marc knows our songs better than we do, which was a great help to us during rehearsals!). Sure, Derri mangled some of the lyrics… but he’s always done that. The remarkable thing is, he sang and played for an hour and a half without passing out from exhaustion! Way to go, Derri! And me? Ya know, I don’t think I missed a beat! I wonder if there’s still time for me to join a young, skinny band and hit the ol’ road?!

The audience was truly gracious. They always are at Cornerstone! That’s why bands like us look forward to playing there year after year. It’s something like a family reunion – coming together to enjoy rock music – and to celebrate our unity in Christ Jesus. A joyous event! Yes, and it was a good gig!
