I Am the Day of Current Taste is the third album by the American indie-rock band Roadside Monument, released on Tooth & Nail Records in 1998. The album was produced by James Robbins.

With tongue firmly in cheek no doubt, Roadside Monument’s third and final project is a far cry from what would be considered ‘current taste’. Produced by J Robbins, Roadside Monument’s experimental side has been encouraged to surface, with the majority of material herein being over six minutes long, giving ample room for the band to have legnthy jam sessions. Sonically speaking, this may well be classified as hardcore based progressive alternative rock, with a subtle hint of jazz thrown in for good measure that needs to be heard to be believed. Complex riffs, not only seasoned with time changes, but also a kaleidoscope of varying moods and tones, are the order of the day; tastefully arranged to exude an intensely raw and live feel that either loses or maintains the listeners attention. Stand out tracks have to be the experimental sounds of «Cops Are My Best Customers», made up of an intricately woven wall of sound complete with saxophone; and «DJ Simpson House Auction», with it’s hard-edged alternative guitar intro which then gives way to a lengthy instrumental part ranging from hardcore fused low end grindings, to laid back bass rhythms. Like truly progressive musical compositions, each piece contained here needs time to be appreciated s separate ideas that as a whole, make up a deep and intricate musical tapestry. Note: Re-issued on 12-inch vinyl LP by Burnt Toast Vinyl in 2023 with 500 copies pressed on Clear Orange vinyl/Gold vinyl with Blue & Red Smoke. (The original, collaged-assembled-by-hand album artwork for I Am the Day of Current Taste had to be painfully recreated in 7 individual layers. While such bizarre, aberrant artwork was being restored, they thought, “Why not also add an anaglyphic layer of 3D viewing texture to the front and back jacket, and throw in a pair of Blue/Red 3D Glasses with every copy?”.)
