Description
Walkaway is the sophomore – mostly instrumental – album by the American techno artist Prophetica (a.k.a. Eric Dunne), released on Demulcent Records in 2004. The album was recorded and mixed at Washed Studios in Columbus, Ohio; with Eric Dunne producing. All tracks written by Eric Dunne.
“Thanks to Morgan Casey for the use of her voice on “Never Gonna” and “It’s Strange”. Thanks to Sheltershed (courtesy of Myx Records) for the generous use of the Breathe (Prophetica’s Vexed Mix) for this CD.”
This is Eric Dunne’s second and apparently last full length album, and he’s saved the best ’til last! There are 11 tracks mostly of epic proportions, covering trance, big-beat and electronica. Two feature the fragile, yet endearing vocals of Morgan Casey, «Never Gonna» being the stronger of the two, with rasping analog synths rolling in the background and robust beats keeping the energy flowing. Some of the other tracks have short clips of sampled vocals or speech, while many are completely instrumental. However, the rhythmic underpinning is always strong, with credible percussive sounds and classic analog synth programming. The envelope of the dance genre has not been broadened with this release, but the known formula has been filled to the max with the energetic rhythms (mostly between 130 and 145bpm) and classic analog-type sounds with filters galore. Worth checking out by clubbers and DJs alike. [Andy Cooper, Cross Rhythms, March 2005]
