Very Best of PFR is a compilation album by the American pop/rock band PFR, released on StarSong Records in November 2006, manufactured by EMI CMG Label Group.

These days, in church circles, PFR simply stands for Presbyterians For Renewal, but back in the 1990s Pray For Rain were at the top of the Christian music tree. For four years in succession they produced a clutch of highly popular and radio friendly albums including ‘Goldie’s Last Day‘ which was named after a pet golden retriever! With that album they had abbreviated their name to ward off threatened legal action from a soundtrack outfit with an identical moniker. But, in 1998 PFR called it a day with what was, in effect, a greatest hits album, the aptly named ‘The Late Great PFR‘. Yet the band found it hard to stay apart for long and reformed to record ‘The Bookhouse Recordings‘, an album chiefly consisting of their classic songs, in 2004. If that weren’t enough we now have this third hits collection compiled from the original four albums. With a title as grand as ‘The Very Best’ it’s a shame that it doesn’t include any of their reunion recordings including covers of hits by the Beatles and the Electric Light Orchestra. Such gripes aside the album does reflect the band’s incredible ability to change musical direction every time they released an album. The collection rightly includes PFR’s initial radio hit «Do You Want To Know Love» as well the band’s best known classic «The Love I Know», inspired by I Corinthians 13. In essence, this release of a dozen PFR gems will please any fans who missed them in their heyday. Those who were there at the beginning probably already have an earlier collection and will thus find this new kid on the block superfluous. [Chris Tozer, Cross Rhythms, March 2007]
