Michael English

Description

The self-titled solo debut album by the American singer Michael English was released on Warner Alliance in 1991, a division of Warner Bros. Records, a Time Warner Company. The album tracks were recorded by Bill Deaton and Bill Whittington at The Dugout and Quad Studios in Nashville, Tennessee; with Brown Bannister producing for RBI Productions. Overdubs recorded at The Dugout, Quad Studios, and Omnisound Studios in Nashville and at Kaleidescope Sound in Bellevue, Tennessee; and at Eastside Sound in Brooklyn, New York. Mixed by Deaton (tracks: A1, A2, A3, A4) and Whittington (tracks: A5, B1, B2, B3, B4, B5) at Mastermix and Backstage in Nashville.

The ex-Gaither Vocal Band warbler tries his hand in the solo stakes herein, and a promising debut ’tis too. Mellow, pop/rock ditties allied to a quite conventional MOR type of voice could normally expect a “no-no” rating. Mr English does, however, manage to inject a degree of fervour and excitement into what could have been lost in the land of bland. Several songs, eg, «Mary Did You Know», have the wherewithall for long-term survival and this pleasing artist has a valid contribution to make to the scene. A polished, professional set.
