Treasure the Questions

Description

Treasure the Questions is a studio album by the British singer and songwriter Martyn Joseph, released on Pulse Records in 1988, a division of Ears & Eyes Music. The basic tracks were recorded by Dave Schober assisted by Kevin Twit at Digital Recorders in Nashville, Tennessee; with Tommy Sims of White Heart fame producing. (“A MEGA Production for Pulse Records.”) Overdubs recorded by Dave Huff and Terry Ostovich at Huff Recording in Mississippi. Mixed digitally by Schober at Digital Recorders.

Martyn is one of the very few UK Christian artists with the all-around talent to make it in secular music should he want to. A superb singer/songwriter with a dynamic stage act solo or with a band. This album finds the Welshman in Nashville for a mega-professional production under the watchful eye of Tommy Sims, who is joined by his Whiteheart compadres for sterling work as backing band extraordinaire. Buddy Greene‘s in there too, for good measure, his harmonica wailing it’s heart out. Most tracks are punchy, occasionally approaching Springsteen territory. «I Will Follow» rocks like fury, the band giving their all and solo blasts from Mark Douthit (sax) and David Huff (slide guitar). «Sunday’s Coming», based on Tony Campolo’s theme, is another storming workout, all guns firing. The eye of the storm comes with «Broken Wings Don’t Always Heal to Fly», beautifully gentle, with Amy Shreve on harp and Sims on keyboard. There’s not a weak track in sight on this finely polished pop-rock album. Martyn is an exceptional talent who has improved enormously in his five years of recording to become exemplary in every way.
